About the course

This programme seeks to consolidate and improve the students’ knowledge of Sociology; appreciate its applications in different socio-cultural contexts and to involve the students in an intellectually stimulating and satisfying experience of learning and studying the dynamics of social relationships in any given society. It should raise the human capital that is required to achieve societal development through the application of the concepts, theories, and methods in Sociology. Candidates are to be equipped with the ability to apply their Sociological knowledge and skills for understanding and seeking solutions to societal problems in Nigeria, Africa and the global community. They should have the vital knowledge and skills with which they can proceed to further their studies in special areas of Sociology. It will develop the students’ intellectual capacity to understand social institutions, analyze social phenomena and acquire useful competencies for public and private service.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS



The criteria for admission into M.Sc. and MBA programme will be as follows:
Matriculation requirement, which must be 5 O’level credits including Mathematics and English.
Candidates with Second Class (Lower Division) Bachelor’s degree in the discipline (for the M.Sc.) and from any discipline (for the MBA) from an approved University, or the Postgraduate diploma with a CGPA of not lower than 3.0 on a 5-point scale from an accredited university.
Graduates of other disciplines are also free to apply, but will need credible references, and shall be exposed to core undergraduate courses.
