Dr. Bernard Verr graduated from University of Lagos with BSc (Accounting) 1977.  In 1980, he passed the final examinations of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)UK,  He became an associate member of CIMA and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria in 1982 and 1983 respectively.  He later obtained a Masters in Business Administration (Manchester Business School) and PhD (Policy Analysis), University of Abuja.

 

Dr. Verr started work with Bank of the North Ltd in 1979 and by1982, he had risen to the position of Assistant Chief Accountant.  He joined Lobi Bank of Nigeria Ltd as Finance and Operations Manager.  To properly operate as a Chartered Management Accountant, Dr. Verr joined Benue Cement Company Plc as Budgetary and Cost Control Manager in 1984.

 

He moved to the Presidency, Technical Committee on Privatization and Commercialization in 1989 as its founding Director (Finance and Investment).  In 1992, Dr. Bernard Verr became the Director-General, Technical Committee on Privatization and Commercialization (TCPC).  When the organization metamorphosed to Bureau of Public Enterprises, Dr. Verr continued as the Director-General and Secretary to the National Council on Privatization.

 

Dr. Verr served as Member, Board of Directors, New Nigeria Development Company Ltd (NNDC), 1992 – 1994, Member, Board of Directors, Afribank (Nigeria) Plc, 1994 – 1997, Chairman, Board of Directors, Afribank (Nigeria) Plc, 1997 –1999, Co-ordinating Consultant, Infrastructure and Related Vision Law, the National Assembly, 2000 – 2004, Honourable Member, Body of Appeal Commissioners, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Member, Board of Directors and Chairman, Due Process, Nigeria Telecommunications Ltd (NITEL), 2004 – 2005, Chairman, Auditing and International Financial Reporting Standards, Securities and Exchange Commission, 2007 – 2010, Consultant on Budget, the National Assemby, Member, Governing board, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, The Presidency, 2008 – 2012, Member, National Stakeholder Working Group(  NSWG), (Board Member), Nigeria Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative, The Presidency, 2015 – date. He is currently Senior Lecturer, Baze University, teaching Accounting, Business Policy, Strategic Management, Forensic Accounting, Auditing and Public Finance
